The death toll from severe flooding in central Texas has increased to 69 people. This was reported on June 6 by The Guardian newspaper.

"Residents of central Texas held a day of prayer in memory of at least 69 dead and others missing as a result of the devastating floods," the publication said.

According to the newspaper, at least 59 people, many of them children, have already been confirmed dead in Kerr County, which is located in the central part of the state. In addition, reports of more casualties continue to be received in neighboring counties.

It is noted that 11 girls and one summer camp counselor on the banks of the Riverside River, which was previously flooded due to flooding on the Guadalupe River, remain missing. According to local authorities, more than 1,700 people took part in the search and rescue operation, and about 850 people were rescued during the entire time.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott also said that rescuers would remain at the scene until all people were found. According to him, rescuers have already been given instructions stating the rule to consider all missing persons still alive.

The flooding that occurred in Kerr County, which caused multiple damage, became known on July 4. A state of emergency has been declared in the region. Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leita earlier said that the numbers of injured and dead will change as search and rescue operations are still underway.

The city manager of Kerrville, Dalton Rice, in turn, noted that 27 children are still missing at the private Christian summer camp "Mystic".
