The BRICS leaders expressed hope that the ongoing efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine would lead to a peaceful agreement. This is stated in the declaration of the unification summit in Rio de Janeiro, published on July 6.

"We recall our national positions on the conflict in Ukraine, expressed in relevant forums, including the Security Council and the UN General Assembly. <...> We expect that current efforts will lead to a sustainable peaceful settlement," the document says.

The BRICS leaders stressed that they appreciate the mediation proposals aimed at a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict through dialogue and diplomacy. The participants also expressed their readiness to cooperate with the UN in the field of peacekeeping and countering international conflicts.

"We agreed to explore the possibilities of cooperation in the field of armed conflict prevention, UN peacekeeping missions, African Union peacekeeping operations, as well as mediation and peace processes," the text of the declaration says.

In addition, the summit participants condemned the attacks on railway infrastructure in the Kursk, Bryansk and Voronezh regions, which took place on May 31, June 1 and June 5, respectively.

On July 3, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had indicated to the head of the White House, Donald Trump, to continue searching for a negotiated solution to the Ukrainian conflict. He also noted that during the discussion of the issue around Ukraine, Putin informed his American counterpart about the implementation of humanitarian agreements that had been reached by Moscow and Kiev at the talks.
