Influential sheikhs from the West Bank city of Hebron advocate normalization of relations with Israel in return for recognition of the "Emirate of Hebron" by Tel Aviv. This was reported on July 5 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

It is noted that Sheikh Wadi al-Jabari proposed to withdraw the city from the subordination of the Palestinian authority and declare recognition of the state of Israel.

"We want cooperation with Israel. The Emirate of Hebron recognizes the State of Israel as the national state of the Jewish people, and the State of Israel recognizes the Emirate of Hebron as the representative of the Arab residents in the Hebron area," he writes in a letter to the Israeli leadership.

According to the publication, the authors of the message also allowed the possibility of the "Emirate of Hebron" joining the "Abraham Agreements" concluded in 2020 and normalizing relations between Israel, Bahrain, Sudan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Morocco. It is specified that the letter was signed by 13 sheikhs of Hebron.

The Ynet portal reported on July 5 that Israel has received an official response from Hamas on the proposal for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip and is currently studying its details. A day earlier, the Hamas press service announced its readiness to immediately begin a round of negotiations on the creation of a mechanism for the implementation of the agreement on Gaza.
