The Tchaikovsky Night Festival was held in the ancient Demyanovo estate. As part of the project, the opera Iolanta was presented in the author's version by Yuri Bashmet, People's Artist of the USSR, Conductor and Hero of Labor of the Russian Federation.

The Tchaikovsky Night project is dedicated to the 185th anniversary of the birth of Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky and the 175th anniversary of his younger brother Modest Tchaikovsky, the author of the libretto for the opera. He is buried in Demyanovo.

"Of course, he did not know that this would be his last opera, but he was very striving for perfection. There are such statements in his diaries that he is not completely satisfied with previous operas," Bashmet said.

Iolanthe is the last classic opera. In it, the main character is the incredibly beautiful daughter of the King of Provence. The princess is blind from birth, and does not even suspect the existence of a fifth sense. But one day, a knight in love reveals a terrible secret.

"Pyotr Ilyich's opera is just a huge collection of amazing hits. From room to room, the listener cannot relax and calmly switch off, thinking about something ordinary," said tenor Igor Onishchenko.

The musical performance combined the most striking fragments of Tchaikovsky's opera with the author's reflections on the mission of music in a world of darkness and chaos. It became a romantic message to the descendants, in which there are no negative characters.

"We tried to use theatrical, musical, and operatic means to look into the world of Pyotr Ilyich's imagination and the mysteries of his work and mix his diary entries and the brightest, most poignant arias," said director Pavel Safonov.

Yesterday, a large-scale VK Fest started in St. Petersburg in the open air, during which musical performers will perform, meetings with bloggers, lectures and tournaments will take place. ANNA ASTI, "Three Days of Rain", Gagarina, IOWA, Eljay, Sergey Lazarev and many others will perform for visitors at VK Fest.
