- The cardiologist spoke about the effect of irregular awakening on the hormonal background

Irregular sleep patterns can disrupt biological rhythms, affect the cardiovascular and endocrine systems, as well as cause shortness of breath, morning weakness, and even lead to blood pressure spikes. Valeria Bonadykova, a cardiologist at the Scandinavian Health Center, told about this on July 6.
She noted that unstable awakening on weekends is a consequence of the so—called social jet lag - a discrepancy between a person's internal biological clock and the external requirements of his daily routine.
"Shifting sleep by 2-3 hours on weekends changes the hormonal background. Morning cortisol levels rise, and melatonin production decreases. This causes a sharp rise in blood pressure and a rapid pulse rate. On Monday, after the shifted regime, the stiffness of the arteries increases, which creates additional stress on the heart," she said "Газете.Ru ".
According to Bonadykova, social jet lag can increase the level of inflammatory processes, thereby leading to the appearance of persistent hypertension, as well as increase the activity of the sympathetic nervous system, which leads to vascular spasms with subsequent pressure surges and a parallel deterioration in metabolic parameters.
The first sign of a social jetlag is falling asleep and waking up 1-2 hours later on weekends than on working days. To track this, identify the difference, and assess the degree of discrepancy in daily routines, you can use sleep diaries, fitness trackers, or fill out the Munich Chronotype Questionnaire (MCTQ).
To restore the biorhythms, the doctor advised to wake up at a certain, constant time, let the morning light enter the room and reduce the brightness of the gadget screens before going to bed.
"Breakfast and dinner at the same time, light physical activity in the morning — all this helps to restore the rhythm. It is necessary to return to a stable regime gradually: change the rise time by 15-30 minutes every 2-3 days," she added.
At the same time, as noted, if, taking into account the built—up regime, the pressure remains above 140/90 mmHg, there is a headache, blurred vision, chest discomfort, shortness of breath, you should immediately consult a cardiologist.
A study by Sberbank and the Cupibilet service, the results of which were reviewed by Izvestia on July 4, shows that more than half of Russians (51%) regularly experience drowsiness, fatigue and are in an irritated state due to the discrepancy between their biological rhythms and work schedules. At the same time, 76% of the total number of respondents prefer to use weekends to sleep it off.
