The states of the European Union (EU) will be able to abandon liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia from 2028. This was announced on July 5 by the head of the French energy company TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanne, in an interview with BFM TV.

"We have decided to invest in new facilities in Qatar and the United States, and we will be able to ensure the security of LNG supplies to Europe from 2028," Pouyanne said.

He noted that at the moment, the cheapest gas resources in the world, which the company plans to use to ensure Europe's energy security, can be found in the United States. TotalEnergies intends to purchase and produce gas on American territory, Pouyanne added.

On July 4, TASR news agency reported that Slovakia, at the ambassadorial level, had again blocked the adoption of the 18th package of sanctions against Russia. It was clarified that the government of the country requires guarantees for energy security within the framework of the RePowerEU program, the European Union's plan to phase out Russian gas from 2028.
