The Netherlands intends to increase the payment for municipal housing for Ukrainians

The cost of living in state shelters for working Ukrainian refugees in the Netherlands will be increased from October 2025. This was reported on July 5 by the NOS Broadcasting Corporation, citing a statement by Dutch Minister for Asylum and Migration Mona Keizer.
According to her, the increase in the fee for accommodation will cover government expenses for water, gas and electricity.
Currently, Ukrainians pay €105 per month for municipal housing, but in October the amount per person will increase to €244 per month and up to €252 per month for those shelters where refugees are fed, the newspaper clarifies.
According to estimates, the cost of accommodation for a family of two Ukrainian refugees can reach a maximum of almost €993 per month.
The Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) newspaper on June 8 pointed out the inability of the European Union (EU) to resolve the issue of refugees from Ukraine. According to the newspaper, since the beginning of the conflict, about 4.3 million Ukrainians have received temporary protection status in EU countries, the European Commission has proposed to extend it again, until 2027, although this status is usually valid only for three years.
