Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov insists that the name Stalingrad be returned to Volgograd. He informed Izvestia about this on July 5 on the sidelines of the party congress.

According to Zyuganov, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation is preparing an appropriate decision on this issue.

"We insist on returning Stalingrad to its proud name, which is known all over the planet. I think the congress will unanimously support this. This decision was previously supported by all patriotic forces," he said.

The Communist Party leader added that it is necessary to "return the truth of history to the people."

On April 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree naming Volgograd Airport Stalingrad. The next day, the head of state noted that there was logic in changing the name of the city itself. If we de-ideologize Stalingrad, then the concept will be associated with the victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII), Putin said.
