A group of Florida lawmakers were denied entry to the new Alligator Alcatraz detention center for illegal migrants in Florida the day after the arrival of the first detained migrants. This was reported on July 5 by The Guardian newspaper.

"Five Democratic lawmakers tried to enter the facility, which was previously inspected by White House officials on Tuesday, but were stopped by law enforcement officers from local institutions," the newspaper quoted state representative Anna Escamani as saying.

According to the lawmakers, the decision not to allow them into the center is "a blatant abuse of power and an attempt to hide human rights violations from the public eye."

It is specified that after the inauguration of US President Donald Trump, Florida began to help the administration of the American leader achieve the goal of detaining and deporting a large number of migrants.

On July 1, it was reported that Trump would attend the opening ceremony of an illegal migrant detention center in Florida as part of his program to tighten procedures for the detention and deportation of illegal migrants. It is clarified that this object got its name due to its location in the remote Everglades wetland, inhabited by alligators, crocodiles and pythons, which will serve as a "natural barrier" when escaping from the territory.

On June 14, large-scale rallies against Trump's migration policy began in the American city of Philadelphia. On the same day, the Virginia state police detained a man who purposefully crashed into a crowd of protesters opposed to the actions of the American leader. At least one person was injured in the incident.
