European Union (EU) countries will accumulate strategic minerals due to growing concerns about the vulnerability of the bloc. This was reported on July 5 by the Financial Times newspaper with reference to the draft document of the European Commission.

It is noted that the EU has recently been facing an increasingly complex and deteriorating situation characterized by rising geopolitical tensions, the effects of climate change, environmental degradation, and cyber threats.

"Member states should coordinate reserve supplies of food, medicines and even nuclear fuel <...> It will also accelerate work on creating stocks of goods such as cable repair modules at the EU level," the material says.

In addition, the newspaper writes that EU states should accumulate rare earth metals and permanent magnets, which are needed for energy and defense systems. Work will also begin on compiling regularly updated lists of essential goods, taking into account the specifics of each region and the type of crisis.

A large-scale power outage occurred in Prague the day before. According to media reports, the work of the metro and the city tram was temporarily suspended.
