- The psychologist called the dangerous consequences of conflicts with teenagers over gadgets

Common conflicts between parents and children regarding spending time with gadgets can make a child "go into all sorts of trouble." Psychologist Irina Merkulova reported this on July 5.
According to her, the main reason that motivates parents to violate their children's personal boundaries online is fear, which is completely justified. Adults are afraid that a child may become a victim of scams, bullying, or fall under the negative influence of negativity available on the Internet. At the same time, the underage user tries to assert his independence, which often leads to quarrels, which can be avoided by following simple rules.
"Remember: your experiences are normal. At a minimum, the Family Code reminds us of parental responsibility. In addition, the experience and critical thinking of an adult suggests that there are many risk factors associated with a phone in life, from criminal earnings and fraud to bullying," the expert said in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».
She warned that passwords should not be hacked or phones taken away. Instead, it is necessary to teach children how to use gadgets competently, illustrating to them the importance and indispensability of live communication. To do this, you need to acquire and develop shared hobbies that do not involve using a smartphone or tablet.
Merkulova urged not to forget that gadgets are the personal space of everyone, regardless of age, and do not always represent an "absolute evil," as their use can be useful in the educational process.
In addition, as the psychologist clarified, it is social networks that are one of the ways of self-affirmation, so you can secretly subscribe to your child and provide him with likes and reposts, which will let him know that others like his content and will positively affect the formation of healthy self-esteem.
"Don't forget that mistakes are part of personal growth. Instead of criticizing, support the child and show them how to do things differently - better, more environmentally friendly, and, most importantly, safer for everyone. A balance between security and respect for personal boundaries will help maintain a trusting relationship with a teenager," Merkulova summed up.
Kaspersky Lab analysts told Izvestia on July 3 that more than half of Russians (52%) use gadgets as a manipulation that allows them to control children's behavior. They take away the phones of minors for bad behavior. At the same time, 31% of respondents, on the contrary, encourage their children with gadgets. In addition, 18% of parents began to quarrel with their children more often because of prohibitions. Experts reported that they doubt the effectiveness of appropriate manipulation, as such behavior can provoke conflicts in the family.
