The mother of the Russian detained in Baku spoke about the conditions of his detention

The Russians detained in Baku were placed in double cells, where they are kept in good conditions and receive decent food, in addition, they are "demonstratively" treated neutrally. This was announced on July 4 by the mother of one of the arrested Sergei Sofronov, Maria.

"Finally, embassy staff were allowed to visit the arrested people today. I got a call an hour ago. You've seen the photos and videos of the guys. It's all over now. The attitude [towards them] is significantly neutral. They are housed in double cells, the conditions are good," says her page on the VKontakte social network.

Sofronova clarified that at the time of her arrest, her son was "in the most unnecessary place at the most unnecessary time." She stressed that she learned about Sofronov's disappearance from his friend and, after frantic and unsuccessful attempts to get in touch with him, immediately went to Baku.

The woman expressed her gratitude to all the caring Russians, from whom she received messages in a continuous stream, and also noted the work of the Russian media, who tried to help the relatives of the detainees and continue to do everything to "not harm the guys" and help their loved ones.

Certain crisis moments do not interfere with bilateral relations, experts say.

On June 30, Azerbaijani security forces conducted an operation in the office of Sputnik Azerbaijan. At the same time, two Russian journalists were detained in Baku — Igor Kartavykh, the head of the agency's editorial office, and Evgeny Belousov, the editor-in-chief. Later, eight more Russian citizens were detained in the city. On July 2, the Russian Embassy in Baku reported that Russians had received complaints about the use of physical violence, document checks and visits by unknown persons.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the incident, said on July 2 that Russia intends to respect the legitimate interests of its citizens.
