The president of the Russian Cynological Federation, Vladimir Golubev, called on dog owners not to allow pets to drink from reservoirs.

In an interview with Radio 1 on Friday, July 4, the expert reminded that dogs should have round-the-clock access to water. On average, a pet needs about 60 ml of liquid per 1 kg of weight, taking into account wet food and vegetables in the diet.

Water consumption increases in the heat, however, according to the expert, excessive thirst on normal days or complete abstinence from water may indicate health problems and require consultation with a veterinarian.

Golubev stressed that filtered water remains the best option for drinking. Water from the tap, toilet bowl, fountains and open reservoirs should not be given - it can be dangerous and lead to poisoning, writes RT. Owners are advised to take a drinking bowl with clean water for walks.

Regular water change in the dog's bowl is especially important in the heat — at least twice a day. Bacteria can actively multiply in standing water, so the cleanliness of dishes plays a key role.

Ceramic and stainless bowls are considered the most suitable. Golubev recalled that taking care of a pet's drinking regime is just as important as a proper diet — clean water promotes the health and longevity of a dog.

In May, Golubev told us which plants pose a danger to dogs. In particular, bulbous flowers are dangerous for dogs: tulips, hyacinths, daffodils. Ingestion of an onion is fraught with poisoning.
