Turkish law enforcement agencies have detained 44 people on suspicion of involvement in the outbreak of forest fires in 12 provinces, 10 of them have been arrested. This was announced on July 4 by Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.
"44 suspects were detained. Of these, 10 were arrested, and a judicial control measure was applied to six people. 13 suspects were interrogated, and court proceedings are continuing against 15 people," he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
Meanwhile, Turkish Health Minister Kemal Memisoglu announced earlier in the day that two people had become victims of forest fires in the country, at least 538 residents were injured, one of them is in serious condition.
On July 1, Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ibrahim Yumakli announced that 342 forest fires had been registered in the country over the past few days. It was clarified that six fires in Manisa, Izmir, Hatay and Antakya were ongoing at that time. Later, on July 4, he said that six of the nine large forest fires had been brought under control.
