The media learned about Trump's past telephone conversations with Merz and Meloni

On July 4, US President Donald Trump held talks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

According to the German magazine Der Spiegel, during a telephone conversation, Trump and Merz discussed the strengthening of Ukraine's air defense system and exchanged views on trade issues.

According to the sources of the publication, the American leader did not make any promises to Mertz. Despite this, government spokesman Stefan Cornelius said that the German Chancellor was in favor of supporting the Ukrainian air defense "very strongly."

In addition, the Italian newspaper Ansa reported that Trump also had a conversation with Meloni. During the conversation, they discussed the Ukrainian conflict and American trade tariffs.

After the conversation, Meloni noted that she hopes for "positive developments" on the Ukrainian issue.
