Nobel laureate Geim, who was born in the USSR, was stripped of Dutch citizenship

Nobel Prize winner in physics Andrey Geim was stripped of Dutch citizenship. This was reported on July 4 by The New York Times (NYT).
It is noted that 13 years ago, the scientist received British citizenship in order to accept a knighthood, and until recently he did not expect that this could cause problems.
"He was informed that he is no longer a Dutch citizen and must hand over his passport to the embassy in London or face consequences from Interpol, as the Netherlands severely restricts dual citizenship," writes the NYT.
Geim himself stated that when obtaining British citizenship, he was unaware of potential problems with Dutch citizenship. According to the scientist, he would have made a different choice and refused knighthood if he had known about the consequences, clarifies "Газета.Ru ".
In February, the CTK news agency reported that Czech President Petr Pavel approved a number of amendments to national legislation, which included a ban on granting dual citizenship to Russians. At the same time, according to the initiative, those who managed to obtain both passports will not have to renounce Russian citizenship.
