The last negotiations of the members of the European Commission (EC) with the Government of Slovakia and other member states on the issue of energy supply to the country on July 3 and the phase-out of Russian imports took place in a "constructive atmosphere." This was announced on July 4 by EC official representative Anna-Kaisa Itkonen, noting that the parties intend to continue the discussion.

She said that a high-level delegation of the EC Commission, headed by the Director General of the General Directorate for Energy, held a meeting in Bratislava with Deputy Prime Minister of Slovakia Denisa Sakova, as well as representatives of industry, gas network operators and market players.

"The challenges facing Slovakia are well known. For several months now, we have been in dialogue with colleagues on energy prices, market prospects, and efforts to diversify, including alternative supplies. This applies to gas, oil and nuclear energy. The issue of energy security of our member states has always been our priority," Itkonen said at a briefing in Brussels.

At the same time, the EC refused to make any statements regarding the outcome of the meeting, suggesting that the question of the results should be addressed to the Slovak side.

On June 29, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini said that it was absolutely necessary for European countries to start a dialogue with Russia. He noted that he fully shares the position of Prime Minister Robert Fico, who demands that the European Commission (EC) provide guarantees for Slovakia's energy security in the event of the adoption of the 18th package of sanctions against Russia.
