A street will appear in Yekaterinburg, which will be named after director Alexei Balabanov. This was announced on July 4 by deputy of the Yekaterinburg City Duma Dmitry Sergin.

"Our Balabanov, catch up with Peter. The toponymy commission has just made an appropriate decision," he wrote on his page on the VKontakte social network.

Sergin clarified that a part of the street and road network in the Akademicheskiy-2 microdistrict in the Chkalovsky district was chosen as the place for the new name. There is already a street next to it, named after the Ural film director Yaropolk Lapshin.

Balabanov was born in Yekaterinburg in 1959. For the mass audience, the director is known primarily as the author of the dilogy "Brother" and "Brother-2". He died in St. Petersburg in 2013 at the age of 54, when he was working on another script.

In May, it was reported that three streets in Khanty-Mansiysk were named after local poets and writers. Thus, the streets in the Irtysh microdistrict were named after the artist Vladimir Gavrilov, the Mansi poet Andrei Tarkhanov, the Honored Worker of Culture of the RSFSR, the journalist and local historian Novomir Patrikeev.
