Damage from forest fires in Transbaikalia exceeded 3 billion rubles

The damage from forest fires in the Trans-Baikal Territory in 2025 exceeded 3 billion rubles. These figures were announced by Acting Minister of Natural Resources Pavel Volzhin during a press conference on Friday, July 4.

"Since the beginning of the year, 168 fires have caused damage to the forest fund amounting to 1 billion 955 million rubles. And the damage caused by extinguishing 440 fires amounts to 1 billion 81 million rubles. A total of 3 billion 36 million rubles," the official explained, quoted by ChitaMedia news agency.

According to Volzhin, this year the regional authorities are doing an enormous amount of work to calculate the cost of extinguishing forest fires. Materials on all fires have been sent to the regional prosecutor's office.

The acting minister also said that since the beginning of 2025, almost 3 million hectares of forest have been burned in Transbaikalia. Almost 90% of fires are caused by humans.
