On July 4, the newspaper Aydınlık published a secret memo from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), which reports on the work of Ukrainian agents in Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir.

The memo mentions Major Maxim Kharchuk, an employee of the SBU counterintelligence unit. As the newspaper suggests, the agent could have recruited residents in Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir, as the document notes the strengthening of his "espionage positions" in the Ukrainian diasporas of these cities.

According to the document, Kharchuk collected information about the internal situation of the Ukrainian diaspora in Turkey and the approach of the Turkish authorities to Ukrainian refugees.

In addition, the major discovered attempts by foreign intelligence services to recruit Ukrainian citizens in Turkey three times. The publication suggests that Kharchuk not only collected data, but also carried out counterintelligence activities.

According to Aydınlık, activities in Turkey were conducted from March 2023 to March 2024.

Earlier in the day, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban spoke about the active activities of the Ukrainian special services in the country in order to influence the parliamentary elections to be held in the country in 2026. According to him, the Ukrainian authorities are seeking to replace the current Hungarian leadership by creating a new party that can win the elections and approve Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
