The launch of the Progress MS-31 cargo ship by a Soyuz-2.1a launch vehicle took place on July 3 at 22:32:40 Moscow time from the Baikonur cosmodrome. On the afternoon of July 4, footage of the launch began to be broadcast on street media screens across Russia, and in three days they will be seen over 30 million times.

"The Progress MS-31 was launched into a preset orbit, separated from the third stage of the rocket, and the ship's antennas and solar panels were deployed normally. The Progress MS-31 is scheduled to dock with the small Poisk research module of the Russian segment of the International Space Station on July 6 at 00:28 Moscow time," the Roscosmos press service said.

Participants of the 73rd long-term expedition, Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov, Alexey Zubritsky and Kirill Peskov, are waiting on the Progress MS-31 International Space Station.

"We saw off this Expedition 73 crew on April 8. A cargo ship will deliver scientific equipment to them, and Roscosmos cosmonauts will conduct 50 experiments. Their return to Earth is scheduled for December 9, 2025. It is important for us to talk about space missions so that the people of the country and our younger generation would be proud of the achievements of the space industry. 3.5 million people will see the launch of Progress MS-31 on the ISS," said Konstantin Mayor, owner and CEO of the MAER media holding.

According to the Roscosmos state Corporation, Progress MS-31 will deliver 2,625 kg of cargo to the International Space Station, including 1,205 kg of dry cargo for the crew of the 73rd long-term expedition, 950 kg of fuel for refueling the station, 420 kg of drinking water for astronauts and 50 kg of nitrogen to replenish the ISS atmosphere.

The ship also carries equipment for scientific experiments "Virtual", "Biodegradation", "Fullerene", "Biopolymer", "Impulse" and "Mirage" to the station.

The rocket bears an image dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Soviet-American Soyuz-Apollo mission. On July 15, 1975, the first joint space flight of representatives of different countries in the history of mankind was launched. The Soyuz-19 spacecraft with cosmonauts Alexey Leonov and Valery Kubasov launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome. Seven and a half hours later, the American Apollo took off from Cape Canaveral, crewed by American astronauts Thomas Stafford, Donald Slayton and Vance Brand.

On July 17, the ships docked, becoming the prototype of the future International Space Station. During the flight, there were four crew transitions between both ships. On July 19, 1975, the ships undocked.
