European businesses and politicians are calling on their governments to reconsider their attitude towards Russia and ease the sanctions imposed against it. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on July 4.

"Across the continent, the voices of business leaders and politicians are heard calling on governments to take a different look at their tough stance towards Moscow," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, economic anxiety in Europe is increasing against the background of the fact that negotiations on a ceasefire in Ukraine have not yet yielded any results. The situation is aggravated by the fact that officials in Berlin and Brussels continue to move away from Moscow.

According to Stefan Meister of the German Council on Foreign Relations, the pressure on the authorities will only grow as "more and more voices" from various companies, as well as politicians, demand a return to Russian gas and oil.

On June 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the introduction of new sanctions does not affect the Russian economy, but it hits Europe itself. The Head of State stressed that the planned European Union (EU) ban on the purchase of Russian energy resources would not have a significant impact on the Russian economy.
