Politico has learned about Witkoff's call to lift energy sanctions on Russia

US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff believes that Russia needs to lift the energy sanctions that were imposed after the start of the special military operation. This was reported by the Politico newspaper, citing sources.
"White House Special Envoy Steve Witkoff wants to lift energy sanctions against Russia," the article said.
However, according to sources, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Bergam disagrees with Whitkoff's desire, who would like to "oust Moscow from the energy market" and enable the United States to increase its own exports.
On June 29, it was reported that the Department of the Treasury for Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) decided to exclude from financial sanctions the activities of a number of Russian banks and insurance companies on projects related to nuclear energy, including the Paks-2 NPP project in Hungary.
