Karapetyan filed a defamation lawsuit against members of the Armenian Parliament

Businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan has filed a defamation lawsuit against Armenian MPs Arsen Torosyan and Hayk Konjorian from the ruling Civil Contract faction. This was reported on July 3 by the judicial information portal. datalex.am .

According to the lawsuit, Karapetyan demands that the deputies publicly apologize and refute statements about his alleged ties to the Russian FSB and illegal economic activities. As the wording of the rebuttal, the businessman insists on the text: "I publicly declare that this information is defamatory, false and unfounded, for which I apologize."

In addition, Karapetyan intends to collect 9 million drams (about $24,000) from each deputy as compensation for defamation and insult, as well as reimbursement of court costs, including state fees and attorney fees.

Karapetyan's detention became known on June 18, he was charged with calling for the seizure of power in Armenia and arrested for two months. Armenian politician Arman Abovyan called the businessman's detention an attempt to weaken the influence of the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC).
