A court in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) sentenced a mercenary with Swiss and Israeli citizenship to 14 years in prison in absentia. This was announced on July 4 by the DPR prosecutor's office.

"The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic has pronounced a verdict in absentia in a criminal case against Avi Doron Motola, a 49-year-old Swiss and Israeli citizen. He was found guilty under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict")," it follows from the material.

It is specified that in April 2022 Motola arrived in Ukraine, joined the unit of the International Legion and underwent military training. Then he was given weapons, ammunition, uniforms and special equipment. Until February 2025, he participated in military operations directed against the Russian Armed Forces (RF Armed Forces). For this, the man received a reward of more than 2.7 million rubles.

According to the agency, Motola was sentenced in absentia to 14 years in prison to serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony.

On June 30, a mercenary from Georgia was sentenced in absentia to 14 years in prison in the DPR for participating in an armed conflict. It was clarified that the defendant took part in hostilities until March 2025, for which he received funds in the amount of more than 2.9 million rubles.
