In Moldova, they pointed to the collapse of the criminal case against the Hutsul

The criminal case initiated against the head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul, and the activist of the Shor party, Svetlana Popan, is falling apart in court and may lead to mass protests in Moldova. This was announced on July 4 by the leader of the bloc of opposition parties "Victory" Ilan Shor.

"The case of Evgenia Hutsul and Svetlana Popan is falling apart before our eyes — there is no evidence, there is no corpus delicti, there is only a shameful political punishment," he wrote on the Telegram channel.

According to him, Moldovan President Maia Sandu and her ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PDS) cannot allow the Hutsuls to be acquitted, because this will lead to the "collapse of this whole deceitful system."

Shor stressed that Hutsul and Popan have become symbols of the people's struggle. He said that this situation would lead to mass protests, which greatly frightens the Moldovan authorities.

On July 3, Andrei Safonov, deputy of the Supreme Council of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR), said that Hutsul had become one of the most prominent symbols of resistance to the power of the current president of Moldova. According to him, these actions by Sandu show the incompetence of the country's authorities.

Hutsul was detained at the Chisinau airport on March 25 when her name was found on the list of persons prohibited from leaving the country. Later, the head of Gagauzia was arrested for 20 days, and on April 9, the court replaced her measure of restraint with house arrest. On May 12, the court decided to extend the house arrest for another 30 days, and it has been extended several times since. On July 1, prosecutors demanded that Hutsul be sentenced to nine years in prison in the case of "illegal financing of political parties."
