- Two more members of Basayev's gang were sentenced for attacking the military in 1999.

Vakhita Khamzatkhanova and Takhira Begeldiyev (both listed as terrorists), who fought in the gangs of Shamil Basayev and Emir Khattab, were sentenced to imprisonment in a high-security penal colony. This was announced on July 4 by the official representative of the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation Svetlana Petrenko.
In 1999, Begeldiyev and Khamzatkhanov joined a terrorist gang and took an active part in committing serious and especially serious crimes. It is specified that on October 4, 1999, they took part in an ambush on Russian military personnel, as a result of which 15 soldiers were killed and 28 more were wounded.
"Khamzatkhanov and Begeldiyev were sentenced to 24 years and 21 years in prison, respectively. They will serve their sentences in a high—security penal colony," Petrenko said.
The militants were found guilty of participating in a gang, armed rebellion and encroachment on the lives of military personnel. The representative of the Investigative Committee stressed that investigators and operational services continue to search for those involved in the mentioned crimes and will implement the principle of the inevitability of punishment.
On May 27, law enforcement agencies detained four members of terrorist gangs, Shamil Basayev and Emir Khattab, who participated in attacks on the Russian military in 1999 and 2000. The ministry noted that evidence of their involvement in attacks on Russian military personnel in Chechnya in the aforementioned years had been collected.
