The psychologist spoke about the impact of horror films on the psyche

Psychologist Ilya Slobodchikov spoke about the impact of horror films on the human psyche.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Thursday, July 3, he noted that everything depends on the specific situation, the specifics of the plot and the mental state of the person.
He stressed that the perception of such films is very individual, and each viewer starts his own associative picture, so it is impossible to give a universal assessment of their influence.
According to the expert, horrors can be used in psychotherapy, but only with a clear understanding of the purpose and under the strict supervision of a professional. He added that films of this genre are not always "horror stories" or thrillers with blood, they can be psychologically intense tapes. However, in his opinion, this approach has no effect in mass use.
Clinical psychologist, member of the Cognitive Behavioral Association, CBT, AST, and DBT therapist Ekaterina Klimenko told Izvestia on September 3 why people like to watch horror movies. She noted that people with increased anxiety often avoid horror films. Their nervous system is already in a state of constant tension, so they don't need any additional stress. But those who rarely experience strong emotions in everyday life can find a way to "shake up" and feel more alive in horror.
Earlier, writer Alexander Sordo explained people's love of horror movies. In his opinion, people like to read scary stories because they perceive them as controlled stress. So, a surge of cortisol and adrenaline allows us to "live through" stress, drive it through ourselves and let go, notes 360.ru .
Before that, psychologist Larisa Ovcharenko advised anxious and impressionable people not to watch horror movies. According to her, the paradox is that it is such people who have a strong desire to watch horror films as a way to process their own fears reflected in what is happening on the screen. kp.ru .
