Six of the nine major forest fires in Turkey have been brought under control. This was announced on July 3 by the country's Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Ibrahim Yumakli.

"We have been fighting nine major fires today. Six of them have been brought under control," the Haberler portal quotes him as saying.

According to him, fires were brought under control in Istanbul, as well as in the provinces of Antalya, Mersin, Kirklareli and Aydin. He also noted that the energy of the fire in Cesme, which spread over a very large area, has decreased.

Also, according to the minister, 624 wildfires were recorded in Turkey during the week, of which 621 were brought under control.

On July 1, Yumakli reported that 342 forest fires had been registered in Turkey over the past few days. It was clarified that six fires in Manisa, Izmir, Hatay and Antakya were ongoing at that time.
