The Central Bank announced plans to limit the validity period of expired cards

The Central Bank of Russia wants to limit the validity period of expired bank cards. This was announced to journalists by Alla Bakina, head of the National Payment System Department of the regulator, at the Financial Congress on July 3.
According to her, the number of expired cards is decreasing as banks are gradually replacing them. At the same time, the card's validity period is one of the elements that hinder the Bank of Russia's anti-fraud operations, Bakina noted.
"We are currently looking at limiting this period. Because, firstly, there are not so many cards left. <...> We will simply announce in advance [the deadline] so that the banks can complete this balance [of cards]," she stressed, answering a question from RBC.
Analyst of the financial marketplace "Banks.<url> reported on June 22 that Rosfinmonitoring will be able to block suspicious transfers to the card for up to 10 days, and in special cases — up to 30. She clarified that frequent small receipts, transfers of large amounts without supporting documents, or other atypical transactions may fall under suspicion.
