The explosion in the center of Lugansk, which killed the former head of the city, Manolis Pilavov, could have been caused by a woman carrying explosives. Footage from the scene on July 3 is published by Izvestia.

Alexander, an eyewitness who happened to be near the explosion site at the time of the incident, suggested that a bomber had committed the attack.

"The bomber here, roughly speaking, was, in theory, yes, a woman. <...> She [before that] was just standing, talking on the phone. We didn't pay much attention to her," he told Izvestia.

He added that he was thrown several meters by the blast wave. The circumstances of the explosion are currently being determined by law enforcement agencies.

TASS, citing a source in the operational services, also reported that a suicide bomber could have been involved in the explosion.

Pilavov died as a result of an explosion of an unknown nature on Taras Shevchenko Street in Luhansk earlier that day. Three more people were injured in the incident, one of them is in serious condition. The Investigative Committee of Russia has opened a criminal case into the explosion.
