More than half of the Russian population (51%) regularly experience fatigue, irritability and drowsiness due to the discrepancy between biological clocks and work schedules. The scale of the problem of social jetlag among Russians was revealed by a joint study of the Savings Bank and the Kupibilet service, the results of which were reviewed by Izvestia on July 4.

"Social jet lag is a chronic condition where a person's internal biorhythms conflict with social obligations. Unlike the classic jet lag caused by jet lag, it has long-term consequences.: decreased immunity, metabolic disorders and an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases," explained Dmitry Gurov, pharmacist at the Savings and Savings Bank.

The study showed that 76% of Russians use weekends to sleep off the work week, and 61% regularly do not get enough sleep. At the same time, only 27% of respondents realize that they suffer from social jet lag, while 62% are not familiar with this concept at all.

Experts note that summer vacations can be an opportunity to restore circadian rhythms, but recommend avoiding sudden jet lag. Kupibilet analysts recorded an increase in the popularity of destinations without a significant time difference: domestic air travel increased by 15-18%, and rail travel by 10%. Daytime trains are especially in demand, allowing you to maintain your usual sleep patterns.

"To normalize sleep, it is important not only to follow the regime, but also to support the body with magnesium and B vitamins. However, a gradual change in lifestyle and the restoration of natural biorhythms is of key importance," Gurov advised.

Experts emphasize that the problem of social jet lag requires serious attention, as the chronic discrepancy between the biological clock and the social schedule can lead to serious health problems. The summer season is the optimal time to start working on restoring healthy sleep and wakefulness.

On July 3, Associate Professor of the Department of Therapy at the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education Irina Volgina told Izvestia about the dangers of chronic sleep deprivation. The doctor notes that this weakens the immune response not only to infections, but also to oncological processes and autoimmune disorders.
