- The media reported on the resignation of the entire EC staff during a vote of no confidence in von der Leyen.

A vote of no confidence in the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen, initiated due to suspicions of corruption in the procurement of vaccines against COVID-19, may not receive sufficient support. However, if it is approved, the entire composition of the European Commission will have to resign. This was reported by Politico on July 3.
"At this stage, the vote is mostly symbolic — most political groups have already made it clear that they will vote against the vote of no confidence — but it highlights the growing dissatisfaction with it in Brussels after a series of controversial steps and scandals," the publication says.
It is specified that Von der Leyen will have to make a speech on Monday during a debate in Strasbourg, where parliamentarians will discuss her leadership.
The initiator of the vote was the right-wing Romanian MP Gheorghe Piperea. He accused von der Leyen of corruption, citing her correspondence with Pfizer CEO Albert Burla in 2021. According to the MP, von der Leyen conducted informal negotiations on the supply of vaccines against COVID-19, hiding the details from the public and European institutions.
Euractiv announced on July 2 that the European Parliament (EP) will hold a vote next week on declaring a vote of no confidence in the head of the European Commission. It is specified that the discussion of the initiative is scheduled for July 7.
