The man who attacked hospital staff in Irkutsk with a knife had previously been treated at the regional neuropsychiatric dispensary (OPND). This was reported by law enforcement agencies on July 3.

"Earlier in May last year, by a court decision, he was hospitalized in the emergency department, where he underwent compulsory treatment," the source told RIA Novosti.

The governor of the Irkutsk region, Igor Kobzev, wrote in his Telegram channel that the regional authorities would provide assistance to the victims and their families.

The measure is aimed at protecting doctors from aggressive behavior.

As Kobzev pointed out, police officers detained the attacker. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on the attempted murder of two or more people. At the moment, all the circumstances of the incident are being clarified.
