Vladimir Skvortsov, a cousin of Russian Sergey Sofronov, who was arrested in Baku, commented on the incident in an interview with Izvestia on July 3.

According to Skvortsov, the last time they talked was on the evening of June 29. According to him, Sergei was in a good mood at the time, and nothing bothered him. They were going to call again the next day, but Sofronov did not get in touch. Skvortsov learned about the detention of a relative from a video posted on the Internet.

"It is not possible to contact him now. We can't talk directly, we don't even know how he feels," the detainee's cousin stressed.

Skvortsov added that the Baku police had not told them anything for a long time. Later, the arrested Russian's mother was able to talk to the investigator and a lawyer. Then it became known that "he is in prison for up to four months while the investigation is underway."

Sofronov's mother Maria told Izvestia on July 2 how she found out about what happened to her son. According to the woman, no one informed her about Sergey's detention — he simply disappeared on June 30. The next day, Maria was sent a video showing her son.

On July 1, the APA news agency reported that the Sabail District Court of Baku had arrested eight Russian citizens for four months on charges of organizing drug trafficking from Iran and cyber fraud.
