French President Emmanuel Macron contacted Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone, as he sought to get ahead of other leaders of the European Union (EU) countries as a negotiator with Moscow. This opinion was expressed on July 3 by Cypriot journalist Alex Christoforou.

"He (Macron. — Ed.) snapped and wanted to be the one who would call Putin ahead of the rest [EU leaders]," he said on his YouTube channel.

In the EU, according to Christoforo, there is no such figure of a negotiator anymore.

"Actually, who else could it be? [British Prime Minister Keir] Starmer, Ursula [von der Leyen — head of the European Commission], [head of the European Diplomacy] Kaya Callas and other globalists? He (Macron. — Ed.) there just wasn't much choice," the journalist pointed out.

On July 1, Putin and Macron had a telephone conversation. During the conversation, the heads of state noted that Moscow and Paris bear a special responsibility for maintaining peace in the Middle East. In addition, the presidents discussed the Ukrainian conflict.

According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Putin's talks with his French counterpart were very informative.
