German politicians consider it natural that the position of the brewing industry in Germany should deteriorate in the international ranking prepared by the largest trader in the market, BarthHaas. Russian producers have taken one of the leading positions in it, while almost all German brewing companies have lost their positions.

"The reason lies in the lack of production volume, number and variety of breweries in Germany. As a result, the volume of production is relatively low. This means that these plants were and still are quite small," Steffen Kotre, deputy of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, explained to Izvestia.

According to him, breweries in Germany have not been able to unite in order to enter foreign markets on a large scale. In this regard, the trend has not become something new, the politician noted.

Evgeny Schmidt, an ex-member of the Bundestag and a member of the AFD, agrees with this opinion.

"There are systemic problems in Germany that have not been solved in any way in recent years. This includes bureaucracy, high taxes, and high energy prices. The closure of the nuclear power plant, and then the introduction of additional sanctions against the export of Russian energy resources. A huge number of industries in Germany have been put on the brink of survival," he explained to Izvestia.

The brewing industry, he said, was no exception in this regard. In the context of restrictive measures against the Russian Federation, German breweries are becoming uncompetitive on the world market, the politician noted.

Earlier, the Russian brewing companies Baltika and United Breweries (OPH) entered the top 40 of the prestigious international rating for the first time after the withdrawal of foreign business from the Russian Federation. Thus, after its purchase from Carlsberg Group, Baltika took the 12th place, and United Breweries holding, which separated from Heineken, took the 24th place.
