Russia has surpassed Germany in the ranking of the largest brewing companies, whose industry is losing ground amid numerous bankruptcies of German companies.

Thus, the number of bankruptcies among German companies has reached a record high over the past ten years — almost 12 thousand since the beginning of this year. In the new world ranking, the foam from Germany turned out to be lower than the Russian one, which, on the contrary, rose in the ranking.

"You pay twice as much for a pack of beer as for carbonated water, which is practically cost-free. And beer production is expensive — raw materials, quality, and process. The margin has dropped significantly, so mass production is no longer profitable," said political analyst Eike Hamer.

Also, of the six German breweries remaining on the rating list, almost all slipped down the table — Radeberger, Krombacher, Paulaner and Oettinger lost in volume, falling by 12%. While Bitburger has a 1.5% increase. At the same time, the Russian Baltika bypassed some German beer brands even without using the so-called German brewing traditions.

"The fact that they are included in the rating on their own means that the international brewing business community recognizes the fact that these production assets now belong, relatively speaking, to individuals from the Russian Federation, and they are completely legitimate in the international production or brewing market," concluded Kamal Lebedev, executive director of the association of beer and alcohol market participants.

Earlier that day, Vyacheslav Mamontov, executive Director of the Association of Beer, Malt and Beverage Producers, told Izvestia that Russian producers had taken leading positions in the world ranking, which indicates the high importance of brewing companies in the country.
