The Leninsky District Court of Yekaterinburg has arrested the eighth accused of the murders as part of an organized criminal group, Aziz Abasov. This was announced on July 2 in the press service of the courts of the Sverdlovsk region.
"The Leninsky District Court of Yekaterinburg <...> has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention in respect of the suspect Abasov Aziz Azai oglu until July 19, 2025," the Telegram channel says.
It is clarified that the person involved is suspected of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 33 of the Criminal Code ("Incitement to crime") and paragraph "h" of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code ("Murder for mercenary motives").
On June 28, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation announced that an ethnic criminal group had been suppressed in the Sverdlovsk region, whose members are suspected of a number of murders and attempted murders in recent years. According to investigators, people from Azerbaijan, who are citizens of the Russian Federation, are involved in crimes in Yekaterinburg committed in 2001, 2010 and 2011.
Later, in Yekaterinburg, law enforcement officers also detained the leader of the Azerbaijani diaspora, Shahin Shikhlinski.
Subsequently, the court detained Akif, Ayaz, Bakir and Mazakhir Safarov, Ahliman Ganjiev, Shahin Lalayev, as well as Kamal Safarov.
