Officials in Europe were stunned by the US suspension of military aid to Ukraine. This was reported by Bloomberg on July 2.

"European officials were stunned by this decision [of the United States], especially after the comments of [American leader Donald] Trump's plans to join NATO, as they insist on compensating for the reduction in American aid," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, the European Union (EU) is waiting for clarification from the White House, while some of the European allies suggest that the position may be softened or changed.

Earlier in the day, NBC News reported on the decision of Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth to suspend the supply of dozens of interceptor missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems, more than 100 Hellfire missiles, dozens of Stinger missiles, more than 250 GMLRS guided precision projectiles and other types of weapons to Ukraine.

According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the suspension of supplies means not only Washington's shortage of ammunition, but also the hope for a faster end to the conflict in Ukraine.
