Moldovan President Maia Sandu is settling personal scores by organizing the trial of Gagauzian Bashkan Evgenia Gutsul. This was stated on July 2 by Konstantin Starysh, a member of the Moldovan parliament from the opposition Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS), on the First in Moldova channel.

"Sandu's complex regime is staging an exemplary massacre, no, not of a public politician, not of the head of the region. This is personal revenge, settling personal scores. Shame on you!" he is quoted as saying on the broadcaster's Telegram channel.

The MP noted that Sandu wants to achieve imprisonment for Hutsuls. According to him, the court's evidence in the Hutsul case is "sluggish and rotten." In addition, Starysh expressed confidence that the country's authorities are seeking to establish control over the autonomy in order to eliminate the political resistance of local residents.

"A young woman, the mother of two minor children, is forced to suffer only because one risipenka (Sandu. — Ed.)! <...> Not to mention the fact that a decent person is put on a par with thieves, rapists, sadists and murderers," he stressed.

Hutsul was detained at the Chisinau airport on March 25 when her name was found on the list of persons prohibited from leaving the country. Later, the head of Gagauzia was arrested for 20 days, and on April 9, the court replaced her measure of restraint with house arrest. On May 12, the court decided to extend the house arrest for another 30 days, and it has been extended several times since. On July 1, prosecutors demanded that Hutsul be sentenced to nine years in prison in the case of "illegal financing of political parties."
