VNIRO scientists have studied commercial algae species in the White Sea

Scientists from the Northern Branch of VNIRO have studied algae belonging to commercial species in the White Sea. This was announced on Wednesday, July 2, according to the Bi-Port news agency.
In June, specialists worked in the waters of Bolshoy Solovetsky Island. There they took samples of water and soil to assess how polluted the coastal area of the Solovetsky Islands is.
In addition, the researchers assessed the seasonal development, age composition and reproduction rates of fucus and kelp populations, as well as the biology and composition of the red algae carrageenanophyte Chondrus curly.
The work carried out will make it possible to establish the characteristics of the growth and reproduction of the above-mentioned algae in the summer of 2025.
Earlier, Izvestia wrote that in several regions of Russia, citizens began to complain en masse of redness on the skin and itching after swimming in open reservoirs. After the examination, it turned out that beach lovers fell ill with cercariasis.
