Peskov: the conversation between Putin and Macron was initiated by France

The telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron was an initiative of Paris. This was announced on July 2 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
"The initiative was from the French side. But you know that President Putin has repeatedly stated his willingness to engage in dialogue," he said during a briefing.
The Kremlin's official representative also clarified that the conversation between the leaders of the countries took more than two hours. He added that there had been no requests from Germany or Britain for negotiations with the Russian side.
During the briefing, Peskov also said that the conversation between Putin and Macron was very informative.
Putin and Macron had a telephone conversation on July 1. During the conversation, the heads of state noted that Moscow and Paris bear a special responsibility for maintaining peace in the Middle East and preserving the nuclear non-proliferation regime. In addition, the presidents discussed the Ukrainian conflict.
