On July 2, Maria, the mother of Russian Sergey Sofronov, who was arrested in Baku, told Izvestia how she found out about her son's incident.

According to the woman, no one informed her about Sergey's detention — he simply disappeared on June 30. The next day, Maria was sent a video showing her son.

The woman said that Sergey arrived in Baku at the end of April and led a habitual lifestyle — he walked with his girlfriend, went to the cinema, cafe, fitness, and went on excursions.

Earlier in the day, the APA news agency reported that the Sabail District Court of Baku had arrested eight Russian citizens for four months, detained on charges of organizing drug trafficking from Iran and cyber fraud.

The suspects are Valery Dulov, a former employee of Russian oil companies, Dmitry Bezugly, an ex—employee of large IT corporations, Sergey Sofronov, an IT specialist, Alexey Vasilchenko, a psychologist and traveler, Alexander Vaisero, a tourist, Dmitry Fedorov, a student, and Anton Drachev, an IT specialist.
