The European Union (EU) countries intend to impose the "toughest" sanctions against Russia over the past few years. This was announced on July 2 by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barraud in an interview with the newspaper Le Monde.

"In the coming days, we will adopt the toughest European sanctions that we have imposed in three years," he told the newspaper.

The French Foreign Minister clarified that the restrictions will be implemented in coordination with the United States, where it is expected that the next package will be adopted by the U.S. Senate in the first half of July, the newspaper writes.Ru».

At the same time, on June 25, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Washington would lose the opportunity to engage in dialogue with Moscow if the United States imposed new anti-Russian sanctions. According to him, US President Donald Trump will reject Europe's requests to strengthen sanctions against Russia because he wants to be able to negotiate a peace agreement.
