Sales of tours to Azerbaijan dropped by 30-40%, depending on the place of departure, after the detentions of Russians. This was announced to Izvestia on July 2 by Aleksan Mkrtchyan, Vice President of the Alliance of Travel Agencies Association, CEO of the Pink Elephant chain.

"Today and yesterday, sales dropped from 30 to 40%, depending on the city of departure," he said.

According to the expert, if the situation normalizes, it will take 2-3 weeks to restore the flow.

Mkrtchyan also explained that mostly travelers who have already bought vouchers for organized tours do not hand them over due to fines.

Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russian citizens should take into account the current situation when visiting Azerbaijan.

On June 30, Azerbaijani security forces conducted an operation in the office of Sputnik Azerbaijan. Later, it was reported about the detention of two Russian journalists — Igor Kartavykh, the head of the agency's editorial office, and Evgeny Belousov, the editor-in-chief.
