The Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation has charged six defendants in the murder case as part of an organized criminal group in Yekaterinburg. This was announced on July 2 by the official representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia Svetlana Petrenko.
"Members of a criminal group involved in a number of particularly serious crimes in Yekaterinburg have been charged. <...> Among the defendants in the criminal case are Mazakhir Safarov, Akif Safarov, Ayaz Safarov, Ahliman Ganjiev, Shahin Lalaev and Bakir Safarov," she said.
It clarifies that the defendants who were part of the criminal group committed murders and attempted murders in 2001, 2010, 2011 for the sake of dividing spheres of influence in business, as well as personal revenge.
The investigation of the criminal case is currently ongoing. It is noted that one of the accused gave detailed testimony in the case and exposed the other defendants.
On June 28, the Investigative Committee of Russia reported that the activities of an ethnic criminal group, whose members are suspected of a number of murders and attempted murders in recent years, had been suppressed in the Sverdlovsk region. According to investigators, people from Azerbaijan, who are citizens of the Russian Federation, are involved in crimes in Yekaterinburg committed in 2001, 2010 and 2011. Several suspects confessed.
Later, in Yekaterinburg, law enforcement officers also detained the leader of the Azerbaijani diaspora, Shahin Shikhlinski.
Subsequently, the court detained Akif, Ayaz, Bakir and Mazakhir Safarov, Ahliman Ganjiev, as well as Shahin Lalayev.
