- At the meeting with Naryshkin, the Cuban President thanked the Russian Federation for its support.

Cuban President Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel Bermudez received Sergei Naryshkin, Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), in Havana. This was announced on July 2 by the SVR press office.
"The meeting was warm and friendly and usefully complemented the dialogue between the two countries. She demonstrated a high level of cooperation between Russia and Cuba," the agency's website says.
It is specified that during the meeting, the Cuban leader noted the beginning of a new stage in bilateral contacts between the states, which this year celebrate the 65th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations.
Diaz-Canel also thanked the Russian side for its support in the Cuban people's struggle against the blockade and the exclusion of Cuba from the list of countries allegedly supporting terrorism, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service added.
In April, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko opened a branch of the Southern Federal University (SFU) in Havana and discussed bilateral cooperation in various areas with the Cuban President. Chernyshenko said that Russian Leader Vladimir Putin and his Cuban counterpart had repeatedly stressed the strategic importance of the two countries' partnership.
