US President Donald Trump is seeking to act as a peacemaker in the Middle East conflict. This was stated on July 2 by political analyst Ivan Mezyuho, commenting on the words of the head of the White House about Israel's decision to agree to the terms of a truce in the Gaza Strip for a period of 60 days.

"Trump would like to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, and for this he needs to try on the laurels of a peacemaker. He has been trying to do this for a long time in various directions, being active both in the Ukrainian military crisis and in the military confrontation between India and Pakistan. So far, Donald Trump can only be called a peacemaker by a long stretch," the source said.

The expert also drew attention to the dependence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the American leader, pointing out that "he will be forced to agree to terms for a truce in Gaza for 60 days." However, the political scientist expressed doubts about the stability of this agreement, adding that one of the parties may violate it.

"There are also enough hotheads in Gaza who seek revenge for the destroyed houses, facilities, and infrastructure of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the Gaza Strip, so the 60-day truce is initially a very fragile structure, and indeed the cease—fire regimes in the Middle East have never been 100% stable," he stressed. Mezyuho.

In addition, the political scientist added that Netanyahu may resort to escalating the conflict in Gaza to delay his political fate. According to him, even inside Israel, there are accusations that the prime minister exacerbates disagreements at times when he needs to speak in court.

Trump announced on July 1 that Israel had agreed to terms for a 60-day cease-fire in the Gaza Strip during a meeting with representatives of the White House. He noted that during this period, the White House will maintain contacts with the parties in order to put an end to this conflict.

In addition, the US president announced his intention to force Netanyahu to cease fire in the Gaza Strip. To do this, the American president intends to take a "very tough" position in the negotiations.
