The deputy spoke about the effectiveness of self-locking on loans

Self-locking on loans has become one of the key financial security tools for Russians. However, many people still have questions about how effective this mechanism is and how it works in real conditions. Nikita Chaplin, a State Duma deputy and member of the Budget and Taxes Committee, told Izvestia about this on July 2.
"Self—locking is not just a temporary lockdown, but a serious barrier to unscrupulous actions. According to our data, a significant part of the citizens who have imposed the ban extend it after the expiration date. This suggests that people consciously approach managing their credit burden and appreciate the protection tools provided," the deputy noted.
According to him, one of the important aspects of self-prohibition is the role of prohibition in the fight against fraud. Criminals often try to apply for loans using someone else's passport data, but the ban significantly complicates their task. The self-lock acts as an additional filter: even if fraudsters have gained access to personal data, they will not be able to apply for a loan without lifting the restriction through official channels. This seriously reduces the risks for citizens.
However, some citizens are worried about whether intruders will be able to bypass this protection.
"Technically, it is impossible to completely eliminate fraud attempts, but self-locking significantly minimizes such cases. Banks and MFIs are required to check the borrower's status in the BKI, and if the ban is active, the loan will not be approved," the deputy emphasizes.
For those who want to make sure that there are no illegally issued loans, Chaplin advises regularly checking their credit history through official sources, for example, through the portal of Public Services or BKI. If the ban was imposed, but the loan appeared anyway, this is a reason to immediately contact law enforcement agencies and challenge the deal.
As for statistics, according to the parliamentarian, the self-lock has already helped prevent thousands of fraud cases.
"We continue to analyze the exact figures, but we can already see that the number of attempts to apply for loans using fake data has decreased. This is also confirmed in the banking sector," Chaplin notes.
A separate issue is the actions of fraudsters when stealing passport data and access codes. If the attackers have gained access to personal data, they may try to lift the ban. Therefore, it is important to keep codes and passwords safe, and in case of loss of documents, immediately block them and notify credit institutions.
In conclusion, Nikita Chaplin emphasizes that self—locking is a reliable tool, but it requires conscious use. Citizens should understand how to use it and what additional security measures to follow. Together with other initiatives, such as strengthening oversight of microfinance institutions, this will help make the credit market safer.
A service with the ability to prohibit the issuance of loans to oneself has been launched on the Gosuslugi portal since March 1. Those who have submitted such an application have a special mark in their credit history, in the presence of which banks and microfinance organizations must refuse a person in the case of a loan application.
